Summary

Charlotte was stalked by a man who had been a patient at the rehab clinic where she worked. Years later, Charlotte saw the man around town, and he asked to meet her for coffee. The threats really started one weekend, I wanted to stay home, just hang out with one of my girlfriends, sit by the pool, and it was if you don't come see me, I'm gonna ruin your life, I'm gonna call your work, I'm gonna get you fired, and I don't know why that was the go-to, you know, you're a bitch, I'll tell everybody that you've done all these things.

He made things up and told me that I had done them, that I had never, that were a hundred percent, never anything true. It was really bizarre.

How did you get into clinic work?

So actually I do human services work, and I've been doing it for many years, case management type, social services.

What was it that inspired you to get involved in that?

I guess it was a serendipitous accident. I had a lot of friends who worked in the field and turned out I was really good at it, and I ended up working in substance abuse treatment when I moved to the state I live in now.

What types of day-to-day things were your activities?

Running educational groups, helping with discharge planning, basically being a support person to the counselors.

So not doing counseling or running any kind of process groups, but doing more of the life planning.

Was this job kind of something that overtook your life, or did you still have a personal life?

Because I know sometimes jobs when you're dealing with people and social work and helping people can become all-encompassing.

I would say yes, my life changed quite a bit. I ended up in the position, not really because I wanted to, but when job positions change or places lose some positions and gain others, I got sent to work at the residential facility.

So it did change my life quite a bit.

Years later, you had seen a man around town that you kind of knew from the rehab clinic. Explain to us how you noticed him and how many years that was that had gone by and what you were thinking.

So yes, I worked at the residential facility for several years and then transferred to the medical detox unit and started seeing this person at the store, the Starbucks.
