I am also, for some reason, our in-house translator of Australian culture for American audiences.

In that spirit, today I'm going to introduce to the world a figure who is, I gather, universally known in Australia.

Today we're talking Oz's Tire King and guy who couldn't seem to

get out of his own way in his later years, Bob Jane. Oh, I love this story already.

A celebrated race car driver in his youth, he went on to open one of the most recognizable brands

in the country, Bob Jane T-Marts, specializing in tires, wheels, and batteries, but also a big

sponsor of motorsports, and he was also the owner of what would become a white elephant of a

motor track near Melbourne. Melbourne. Melbourne. Today, there's something like 135 of these

yellow and blue stores across the country, making
