0:17.1	When his wife of 43 years tried to come to his aid, she was killed too. It was a horrific
0:22.8	murder in a part of the country where there were hardly any murders at all, and certainly not
0:27.3	any murders like this. Solving the case became local law enforcement's highest priority. But a year
0:33.8	went by, and then two, and then three, and still the case went unsolved.
0:38.3	There had been suspect after suspect after suspect that investigators had looked into,
0:42.3	but each lead they looked at had either come to nothing or else the investigation into it had stalled out.
0:48.3	With no further lines of inquiry to pursue, the case was growing colder by the day.
0:59.0	And then the Camden County Sheriff's Department found a new way to break the case wide open.
1:15.2	In the fall of 1988, three years after the murders at Rising Daughter Baptist Church, NBC launched a new series called Unsolved Mysteries.
1:20.2	The murder of Harold and Thelma Swain was one of the cases featured in its very first season.
1:30.3	Waverly, Georgia, population 825, is a predominantly black community nestled in the Baptist Bible Belt. For years, Rising Daughters Baptist Church has served not only as a place of worship, but also
1:35.3	as a social center for the small township. But on March 11, 1985,
1:51.2	the quiet sanctity of Rising Daughters' Church was violated by the brutal double murder of Harold and Thelma Swain.
