Welcome to a year in the Bible with daily grace. My name is Kristen and my name is Katie and we want to spend a few minutes a day with you walking through the New Testament one chapter at a time.

This year we will fix our gaze upon Christ so that we may know

him, not only with our minds but with our hearts. Together we will learn that

Kristen Schmucker and we are journeying through the New Testament and today we finish our first book.

Today's reading is the final chapter of the Book of Matthew and I don't know about you but I have been so encouraged by this

account of Jesus's life. Today's chapter is pretty short in light of some of our

recent chapters and the passage opens with the dawn of the first day of the week.

But this Sunday morning was not like any other Sunday morning that has ever occurred.

The Mary's are back of the tomb.

Before we move on, I think it's important to see that these

women were there on Friday and now they are back on Sunday. It makes me think

about the weight of that Saturday. Jesus' body was in the grave. How must these women and the other disciples have felt on that

long day of waiting? I wonder if the world felt different in some strange way. The weight of the weight of Saturday must have felt heavy and hard as the

weight of our own weighting so often feels. Yet Sunday morning finds these women back to the

tomb. They came in mourning that day, but they would not leave

in mourning. In a moment that morning, while Jesus lay dead in the tomb, a miraculous breath

was pulled into his lungs.

For the first time in three days his heart beat in his chest.

Death had not won.

The grave was not victorious over him.
