0:31.8	alongside Kristen as we continue this year in the Bible journey.
0:36.4	And I am so excited because today we get to dive
0:40.6	into the gospel of Mark. It's widely believed that Mark was the earliest of the four gospels
0:46.6	written and that Mark was writing to Christians in Rome who are beginning to face persecutions
0:51.6	at the hands of the Roman Emperor Nero.
0:59.7	This gospel, therefore, is Mark's way of encouraging these believers to persevere.
1:04.5	And he does that by reminding them that Jesus himself suffered as well.
1:10.1	So if we want to follow Jesus, we can expect to be treated like he was.
1:14.3	But following Jesus is worth it because of who he is.
1:21.2	Jesus is the Christ. He's the Son of God. And this is what Mark reminds us from the very first verse. In Mark 1, we are going to look at two sections, verses 1 through 13, the introduction to Mark's gospel, and verses 14 through 45, the beginning of his ministry.
1:34.5	What's interesting about this first section is that there is a big emphasis on wilderness.
