I am so excited to continue with you through the final Gospel, the Gospel of John.

Today we are studying John 9.

Yesterday we studied that Jesus is the light of the world and today we see him prove this not

globally but personally and quite literally to a man born blind. This man had never seen the pink pigments of a sunset. He's never seen the

smiles of those he loved. He's never seen the stars shine at night or the chubby cheeks

of a baby. This man lived in darkness.

Jesus shows him the physical light and teaches him that he is the spiritual light.

The chapters begin with an interesting question from the disciples. They say,

Rabbi, who's sinned this man or his parents that he was born blind? This question reveals a lethalistic understanding of religion,

that if you obey God's word, you will be blessed by God, and if you sin against Him,

you will suffer the consequences.

A belief that you can earn a favor with God.

Before we pass judgment, we can too fall in the same mindset.

We might think that if we go to church every Sunday

or say a prayer every dinner time or tithe,

that God will be happy with us and therefore blessings will follow.
