| 0:41.0 | In James 3, James reminds the reader of the power of our words. |
| 0:45.5 | James writes for us a lot of words about words. |
| 0:49.3 | He isn't introducing a new topic, though. |
| 0:51.3 | He started speaking about the tongue in chapter one, but James does |
| 0:56.1 | give an intense warning in chapter three to those who teach. Teaching God's word is a huge |
| 1:01.9 | responsibility, and though you might think that these passages don't apply to you if you do not |
| 1:07.6 | teach scripture, we should remember that all of us have the opportunity to teach |
| 1:12.4 | others even when that is through informal conversations. At the time that James was written, |
| 1:19.1 | the Bible was still being written. So the early Christians did not have copies. They were |
| 1:24.5 | dependent on those in authority in the church to accurately communicate truth to |
| 1:29.8 | them. That makes these words feel even heavier when we understand the context. But sin with the |
| 1:36.6 | tongue is not limited to those that formerly proclaims scripture. We all struggle with sins |
| 1:42.3 | related to the words that we speak. |
