Tiffany here, and today we come to a rather familiar book to many of us, The Book of Ruth.

After several heavy days in the Book of Judges, Ruth is a breath of fresh air as we see what a life marked by obedience to God looks like.

But as we study this small book, we want to remember that this is not a hallmark movie with some biblical applications thrown in.

This narrative displays God's sovereign hand at work in the lives of his children as he brings the coming Messiah one step closer.

No detail is too small for the Lord, and we will see his abundant blessings in the lives of Ruth, Boaz, and Naomi.

With only four chapters in this book, we will cover all of Ruth today.

That is tough, because we can camp out here for several days.

So today, I'm going to focus on some of the main themes that move the story of redemption forward as opposed to talking about a lot of the details within the actual text.

But first, as we do with all new books, let's talk context.

The author of Ruth is unknown, but many credit Samuel.

This is because of the genealogy referenced at the end of the book.

Whoever wrote the account of Ruth lived sometime after David's anointing as king since he is included in the genealogy.

Verse 1 tells us that the events in this book happened during the time of the judges.

The great thing about the book of Ruth is that so much of what we've studied so far provides us with a lot of context and explanation.

For example, because we just finished studying judges, we know that the time of the judges was marked by everyone doing what was right in their own eyes.
