Today, we finish up the book of Proverbs as we take a look at chapters 30 and 31.

You may or may not notice the title of these episodes, but today I titled this one Noble Character.

Now your mind might immediately go to chapter 31 where we talk about the wife of Noble Character.

But Noble Character isn't just for wives. Noble Character is for all who follow Christ.

The wisdom found in these two chapters of Proverbs will show us that true wisdom is found when our hearts fear the Lord and walk in humility.

Yes, we will talk about wives today in those oh so famous verses of chapter 31.

But when our hearts are surrendered to Jesus, the traits we read in these chapters become a byproduct of knowing Christ.

When we seek to be holy as he has called us to be, we display humility, wisdom, kindness, and we walk in obedience.

With that is our foundation. Let's get started with chapter 30.

If you think back to about a week ago, we studied Proverbs, chapters 25 through 29.

These Proverbs were written by Solomon, but were later compiled by King Hezekiah's men, some 200 years after Solomon wrote them.

Proverbs 30 and 31 fall into this category as well.

But they were likely written by Agar and Lemuel in the latter part of Solomon's reign, and were included in this later collection by Hezekiah's men.

But who was Agar? This is the only place in Scripture we find his name.

Some scholars believe that it was another name for Solomon, but it's unlikely he wrote this chapter due to the different style of writing found here.

What we do know is that God used many authors to declare his word.

Agar's message to the people of his day and those of us reading it thousands of years later transcends time because God's word is infinite and true.
