Hey, you're in the Bible family, Tiffany here, and we are on day three of our journey through the book of Judges.

As we take a look at Judges, chapter 7 through 9 today, our three major themes for this book are on clear display.

We will see Rampant Sin, even among the judge God raises up.

We will see the need for a perfect deliverer,

and God's patience will abound in the face of idle worship and power struggles.

So let's take a look at the life and legacy of Gideon.

Yesterday, we ended with God giving Gideon two signs that he would have victory over the Midianites.

Gideon was enveloped by the Spirit, blew the Rams horn, and then from several tribes came to go to battle.

We read in chapter 7 that 32,000 men assembled, but God said it was too many.

If that many men went out to battle, they would take the credit for the victory, and this victory belonged to the Lord.

22,000 men returned home when God said whoever was afraid could leave.

Now, if you think back to Deuteronomy chapter 20, we talked about the rules God gave for war.

One reason given for men to return home was fear.

We see this rule in action here in judges.

Only 10,000 men remained, but it was still too many.

God then used the way the men drank water from the river to send more of them home.

By the time all was said and done, 300 men remained for battle.

It would only be through the power and might of the Lord that 300 men would overpower the mighty Midianites.
