Tiffany here and today we come to a familiar character, Samson.

The details of Samson's life have been made popular even in secular circles as books and cartoons have elevated his super strength to legendary status.

Many of us likely think of Samson as some type of God avenging bodybuilder.

But our chapters today will teach us that Samson had many hard truths to learn.

Samson's life and great strength was meant to declare God's greatness.

But along the way, Samson chose his own pride, vengeance, and lustful desires.

This might sound familiar as we are tempted to follow the same pattern.

So let's take a look at Judges' chapters 13 through 15 as we begin the life of Samson.

I don't know about you, but I really enjoyed chapter 13 in our reading today.

So often we focus on grown-up Samson and we skip right over his birth story.

But this chapter tells us much about Samson's beginning and more importantly, we encounter another appearance of the angel of the Lord.

Also known as our pre-incarnate savior, Jesus.

As we take a look at this chapter, we see a familiar phrase.

The Israelites again did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.

So God handed the people over to the Philistines for 40 years.

It was during this time the angel of the Lord appeared to the wife of Manoa from the tribe of Dan.

She was barren, but the Lord would now open her womb.

The child was to be a Nazarite from birth.
