Today, we study Ezra chapters 4 through 6.

While these chapters might seem like just a retelling of historical events, they actually

remind us of God's faithfulness to fulfill His promises.

And they show us His sovereignty over every event, past, present, and future.

It can be tempting to skim through these historical narratives, but take time to slow down

and look for the steadfast character of God and how He has made away for His people even

when we don't deserve it.

Yesterday, we ended chapter 3 with the foundations of the temple being laid and the people praising

the Lord for His goodness.

And today, we see that it didn't take long for opposition to arise.

In chapter 4, the enemies of Judah and Benjamin approach the repible and the priest, Joshua,

and offer to help with the rebuilding, stating that they worship God as well.

But while these men might have made sacrifices to God after settling in the Promised Land,

they also worshiped pagan gods and their intentions to help rebuild were anything but good.
