Today, we not only begin a new book of the Bible, we begin a new era in the life of Israel.

Ezekiel and Daniel led us through the exilic years, and now as we begin Ezra, we begin

the post-exilic period.

Over the next two weeks, we will see God's faithfulness and plan of redemption continue

Today, we focus our time on Ezra chapters 1 through 3 and Psalm 137.

As we do with all books, let's talk about some context for Ezra.

Ezra was a scribe and priest descended from Aaron's son, Eliezer.

Ezra was born in captivity, but he was a devout Levite, who knew the law and was faithful

to share it with his people, both in Babylon and eventually in Jerusalem at the newly built

It's believed that he wrote first and second Chronicles as well as Ezra and Nehemiah.
