Summary

Addie was raised in a conservative Christian home and has always had a strong faith in Jesus. Addie also has experienced severe gender dysphoria from a young age, and after much prayer, study, and seeking counsel, she decided to transition from male to female toward the end of college.

Add is very happy with her decision, believes it was the right thing for her to do, and still has a robust faith in Jesus. Addie is still theologically and politically conservative, so she doesn’t fit neatly into the categories that people often have of trans* people.

Hello, friends. Welcome back to another episode of Theology in the Rod. This is part five of a six-part

0:05.8

series called The Diversity of Trans, where we are exploring and listening to and learning from

0:13.0

various experiences within the broader trans conversation. And this series surrounds the

0:20.4

launch of my book, which came out a few days ago, called Embodied. Transgender Identities,

0:25.0

the Church, and what the Bible has to say. So if these conversations have raised many more

0:31.1

questions than you then you thought you even had, then I encourage you to check out my book. It's

0:35.1

available where books are sold. And I put another goal with these conversations is that we would

0:41.2

continue to put flesh on a topic that often is treated at arm's length, treated as some polarized

0:49.8

issue within the culture wars. And I want to deconstruct that approach and reconstruct it with

0:56.0

real people at the center of it. Now, in the last two conversations, we've gotten to know two

1:00.5

friends of mine who have gone through both a stage who are both transitioned and then de-transitioned.

1:07.2

One of them, Kyla, de-transitioned back to her birth sex because she had an encounter with Christ

1:13.9

and believed that was the right thing for her to do. My other friend, Helena, that is not

1:19.2

claiming a religious identity and she also ended up transitioning and de-transitioning for other

1:25.5

reasons. Now, in this episode, we're going to get to know my friend, Adi, sold out believer in Jesus,

1:32.0

experienced dysphoria from a very young age, tried to alleviate that dysphoria through other means

1:40.0

and through much prayer and reading and study and counsel. She decided to transition from male to

1:47.5

female and is still identifies as female and is very happy with her transition. And so,

1:55.5

this is going to be a different story than the last two stories that you heard. And again,

1:59.3

I think it's so important for us to get to know a wide range of trans people so that we will

2:06.8

understand that if you've met one trans person, you've met one trans person. So without further

2:12.5

ado, let's get to know my good friend, Adi.
