In this shortcast, Kerry explores the interrelation between God’s love for us, our love for God, and the notion of being born again. He discusses the covenant connection with truly becoming God’s children, or children of Christ. He talks about how God’s love is manifest in covenant, in sending Christ to fulfill the covenant, and in changing us when we have made and kept covenant, and in the power of that change. That change really results in new beings, begotten by Christ. He touches on how this is tied up into thinking Celestial, becoming godly, and the glory that awaits us.

We are grateful for our sponsor, Lisa Spice, and for our editor, BJ Muhlestein, and for Rich Nicholls, who composed and plays the music for the podcast.

Hello and welcome to the scriptures are real.

0:08.6

This is the podcast where we talk about elements of the scriptures that have helped them become real to us because we believe we need the power that comes when they do become real to us.

I'm your host, Kerry Mealstein, and this is a shortcast.

0:19.8

I haven't done one for a while, but I want to do a little shortcast on one particular element of the epistles of John.

0:27.0

There are so many things in the epistles of John that I love, especially his teachings about love.

0:32.8

And we talked about them not super extensively, but quite a bit with Dr. Nick Frederick in the first episode

0:40.3

for this week. And so I just kind of wanted to touch on another element that we didn't really

0:45.5

talk about, even though I hope that you will spend some real time going through those

0:51.2

teachings. But before we do that, let me just say something that I don't think

0:55.1

I say often enough, which is I hope that you will make these podcasts and anything else you listen

1:01.9

to be things that help you get into the scriptures rather than be a replacement for the scriptures.

1:08.9

I almost don't want to do a podcast because I'm

1:11.4

horrified by the thought that someone might listen to these and say, that's all I have time for this week. And I'm not going to actually do the reading in the scriptures. That would be a disservice and make me a villain I don't want to be. And so I hope that this propels you into the scriptures and that you say, oh, that's interesting.

1:28.2

I'm going to get into that a little bit more.

1:29.5

So with the teachings of John, I'm just going to plead with you, go through and chart out in some way what you think John is teaching about love. I think you can go through and say, he's teaching this about loving God, about God's love for us, about us loving each other and how they interact with each other. I would plead with you to really get into what he teaches about that

1:48.2

and into what he teaches about if we have, say, we have no sin, we deceive ourselves. But if we

1:54.8

confess our sins, then he's faithful and just to forgive our sins. Those are things that are

1:59.9

worth your spending some time on

2:01.2

your own. I'm also just going to remind you that right now we have the cell going on where you can get

2:08.1

25% off my books with Covenant Communications. If you go to Siegelbook.com and type in the code

2:13.7

carry 25. That's K-E-R-R-Y-ry 25 you'll get 25% off and this you can get the Isaiah book

2:20.9

for 25% off and that will help you um with your book of Mormon study i really believe that
