Summary

As we continue to learn about temple construction, today Emma Dotter shows us from 1 Kings 7 Solomon’s divided heart, and the willingness of Hiram of Tyre. Hiram used the gifts he receive from God for the building of the temple. What a correct usage of his gifts!

When we pick up in First King 7, we find ourselves neck deep in descriptions, plans, and ornate objects that must be built for the temple.

Solomon's gotten started on the work that needs to be done, and we're finding out more.

But what we also find is a subtle tell of how Solomon's heart may be divided.

We see a new friend with a familiar name, and hear

of some final acts of faithfulness from the previous king. This passage starts off explaining

more details about Solomon's building project, but it's not the building project expected.

In the first few verses, the author informs us that we actually are not hearing details about the temple,

Solomon's house took 13 years to build, and it was nicknamed House of the Forest of Lebanon.

Why is that?

Well, Solomon used so much cedar for his house that it was joked about as being its own forest. Think about this. There was so much wood imported and used that they called it a forest. That is wild. The subtle nickname for this home is pretty telling, and it's not that subtle. This fact really provokes a question.

Why are we reading about Solomon's house being built amidst the information about the construction

of the temple? The author seems to be alluding to something here. Instead of Solomon giving

his undivided attention to the building of the temple, he actually may have his energy split, temple and personal home construction.
