My name is Tiffany and I want to spend a few minutes with you every day walking through the Bible chronologically.

Hey, you're in the Bible family. Tiffany here. Welcome back to another day on our journey from even to eternity.

We have entered a new era in the life of God's people as Israel has divided.

The Northern Kingdom of Israel is made up of ten tribes, while the Southern Kingdom of Judah is made up of two.

Over the past few days, we've studied the lives of kings from both Israel and Judah.

That pattern continues today. Most of our time will be focused on the evil kings of Israel, but we will get a glimpse of a good king from Judah and the importance of Godly leadership.

As we take a look at first kings, chapters 15 and 16 today, take note that we will chat about six kings of Israel, all of which ruled during the same time as Asa, king of Judah.

Asa had a long reign of 41 years, while the kings of Israel faced continual upheaval in their land due to their sin.

I want to draw our attention to a phrase we will read many times moving forward.

The author of kings will describe all the kings of Israel in this way. He did what was evil in the Lord's sight and walked in the ways of Jeroboam and the sin he had caused Israel to commit.

These simple ways were idolatry and blatant disobedience of the Lord's commands.

Jeroboam's legacy was sin, and sadly, each of the kings of Israel will follow in his footsteps and worse.

We also want to note that as we walk through the reigns of these various kings, we'll be introduced to various prophets.

Some will write books of the Bible, while others will appear briefly to speak on the Lord's behalf.

We've seen this already with Ahayjah's prophecy to Jeroboam in 1 Kings 14, Hanani's rebuke of Asa in 2 Chronicles 16,

and today we read about Jehu's rebuke of King Basha in 1 Kings 16.

Though these men did not write books of scripture like Isaiah, Jeremiah, or Ezekiel, God used them right where they were to speak on his behalf in that moment in history.

In the days ahead, God will raise up men like Elijah and Elisha to proclaim his word as well.

When the prophets speak, we too should pay attention to the truths they share from the Lord.
