Hey friends, welcome back to our journey from Eden to eternity. Tiffany here and today marks the

beginning of a new era in our study, the reign of Solomon. But before we dive into the details of how Solomon ascended the throne,

we need to talk about some context for First and Second Kings.

We are going to be in First and Second Kings for a few months.

So we want to lay the foundation for the various themes we will see throughout these books.

Like Samuel and Chronicles, First and Second Kings is one book in the original Hebrew.

As the Bible was translated, the books were broken into two.

The author of Kings is unknown, and because of the vast number of years of history that it

covers, it likely wasn't compiled until after the Babylonian captivity. Kings covers 400 years in

Israel's history, from the time of Solomon's reign, through the split kingdom, and through

the exile of both kingdoms. As we walk through kings, we will also incorporate the message of the

various prophets that prophesied during these 400 years, men like Isaiah, Amos, Micah, Hosea, and Jeremiah, to name just a few.
