Tiffany here, and we are making our way through the Bible chronologically one day at a time.

Today, we take a look at the preparations David made for the future temple.

We know from our study already that David wasn't allowed to build the temple for the Lord.

That would fall to his son Solomon.

But God did not prohibit David from preparing Solomon and instituting the various services that would take place once the temple was built.

We will get a small glimpse of these preparations in 1 Chronicles 23 through 26.

As we begin, we don't want to forget that the chronicler is writing hundreds of years after these preparations and the building of the temple took place.

His words are meant to encourage those returning from exile.

The majority of these men and women never experienced the temple Solomon built, so the chronicler's words served as a blueprint for when they rebuilt.

But for those of us today who are walking through these events chronologically, we, in a sense, get these details on the front end before Solomon built the temple.

Like any new system implemented or building erected, plans are required.

As we've seen over the course of our study, God is a guide of order and he uses David's preparations to establish the system of worship at the temple.

Preparations we will still see at work even when we come to the New Testament.

Today, we take a closer look at the Levites and how David divided them into various roles.

No role was too small.

Each Levite played an important part in the worship that would take place in the temple.

When we think about the number of sacrifices, offerings, and feasts and festivals we learned about back in Leviticus, this vast number of Levite workers was necessary.
