Shannon Taggart is our guest. Shannon is a photographer based in Brooklyn, New York.

Photographs, they've been exhibited and featured internationally, including within the publications of Time, New York Times magazine, Discover and Newsweek.

Her work has been recognized by Nikon, Magnum Photos and the Ingmoreath Foundation.

Boy, those are some nice little pedigrees to have behind your name. They're Shannon. Welcome to the show. Thank you for joining us.

Thanks for having me. That's great. What an amazing deal to be a photographer. First of all, I love photography.

I love the art of it. I've been friends with Henry Diltz, the famous rock artist and musical artist photographer.

And just I admire so much of the work that these people do. What got you from photography into the whole idea of sayonce and the spiritualist movement and the search for actoplasm?

Well, I was working as a photojournalist in upstate New York and then I started to do some public relations photography.

And my real love has always been documentary work. And so while I was paying the bills, I was looking for a project that could be really creative with.

And so I thought, oh, why don't I just try to make a short project about Lily Dale, which is the world's largest spiritualist community?

And I knew about Lily Dale because I grew up nearby in Buffalo, New York. And Lily Dale's about an hour drive away. And when I was a teenager, my family had this really intense experience with the medium there.
