Hey everyone, welcome to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name is Ali, one of the

hosts for the podcast, and today we are looking at the book of Ruth. What a beautifully written book it is,

almost like a breath of fresh air as we've seen the tragedy and brokenness in the books of Joshua

and Judges leading up to the story of Ruth, her mother in Loneomi and the family or

Kinsman or Deemer Boaz. So during the time of the Judges, Israel had abandoned God and became

completely corrupt. They were in a downward spiral of wickedness and a gravity chasing everything but God,

so they were left to their sinful desires. And while the book of Judges highlights the need for a

Savior or a Deemer, in the book of Ruth we see the Lord working behind the scenes to bring that

Redeemer to His people. Through the family Redeemer Boaz, yes, but ultimately through the line of Ruth,

for it's through her line that Jesus Christ, our Savior, the true Redeemer would be born.

In his compassion and in his kindness through the lives and actions of Ruth and Boaz,

God is faithful to bring fullness from emptiness, and in this story we're given a beautiful picture

of the gospel as we see the pattern of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration play out through

these four chapters. In Ruth chapter one, we see both creation and a fall take place.

When the story opens, Naomi and her husband, Alemilek and their two sons have gone to the land of

Moab to escape a time of famine in the land of Judah. While Alemilek dies and their two sons marry

Moabite women, a family is created, but then both of Naomi's sons die and she tells her daughters

in law to return to their families. When the family falls through these deaths, the hope of carrying

on the family line is seemingly lost. While Orfa does return home, but Ruth shows her loyalty to

...
