0:16.8	points to Jesus. Hey everybody welcome back to a year in the Bible with daily grace. My name is
0:28.1	Crystal and today we will be discussing the book of Romans chapters 7 through 9. In Roman 7 Paul continues the theme of slavery to
0:36.3	sin from the previous chapters. In Christ we have been given a new life. We are no longer enslaved to our sin but free to live a life that
0:45.5	bear spiritual fruit. We see that Paul can speak to the struggle with sin from his own experience.
0:52.4	He knows what obedience to God's word looks like, but he has to continually
0:56.7	wage war against the flesh. Though we can seek to live according to the spirit, it is impossible for us to do this perfectly.
1:04.8	This is why Jesus came to redeem us and to save us from our sin,
1:09.0	for he is the only perfect one.
1:11.8	To paraphrase Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones, if Romans is the brightest
1:16.3	collection of stones in all of scripture, then Romans 8 is the brightest gym in the
1:21.3	cluster. It is a beloved chapter in scripture and for good reason.
1:26.1	Romans A opens with some comforting words. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those of us in Christ Jesus.
1:35.0	He continues to use contrast to make his point this time contrasting the spirit of slavery
1:41.0	with the spirit of God. Slavery to sin brings death while the spirit brings life and peace. The role of the
1:49.1	Holy Spirit in our lives is made evident here with this passage. We see the same spirit that raised
1:55.2	Christ from the dead is powerfully at work within each of us. We also see that the
2:00.7	spirit helps us in prayer by interceding for us. The spirit testifies that we belong to God as his children.
2:08.8	And the spirit is also the first fruits or it acts as a down payment of sorts as we wait for
2:15.1	eternity. This should encourage us greatly in our walk with Christ. He is always
2:20.9	with this and always working to bring about his good and eternal purposes.
