What's up everybody? Welcome back to another episode of a year in the Bible

podcast with the Daily Grace Company. My name is Kyra and I'm a writer on staff here. I'm happy to be here with you all today and we're going to hop right into discussing Proverbs, chapters 22 through 24. In previous episodes we talked about the

independent sayings of proverbs and those were specifically in chapters 10

through 22.

Now we are moving into a section that has a bit more unity

like the beginning of the book does.

Proverbs 22 through 24 brings back the character who is referred to as my son.

In these chapters the author writes as a parent bestowing his advice to his child. It feels as if we are listening in on a speech that a father is giving to his son.

The father addresses practical advice and concerns he has for his son. He wants to direct his

son's attention to wisdom and righteousness so that the son does not go astray.

Scholars indicate that this advice is written in instructional form.

The wisdom relayed here is more detailed and thorough than the brief sayings we read prior to this.

In chapter 22, the author calls out to the sun.

He urges him to listen and apply wisdom. This teaching certainly has practical benefits but the author

gives a spiritual benefit as the reason to gain biblical wisdom.

Verse 19 says, I have instructed you today,

even you, so that your confidence may be in the Lord.
