Hey, hey, thank you for joining us. Welcome to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name is

Katie, and today we finish up the Gospel of Mark. Let's check out Mark 13 through 16.

In chapter 13, we are only a few days out from Jesus' death and resurrection.

Jesus knows that the time is near and he continues to prepare

his disciples for their coming ministry. He uses the entirety of chapter 13 to describe

the end of the age. There will be persecution and

false prophets, but he encourages the disciples to persevere. God will not leave

his own behind. He repeats the phrase, be on guard and stay awake seven times in just this chapter, reminding us to keep our eyes fixed on what our hope rests in.

Jesus is coming back and he will restore what is broken.

Tension continues to build among the religious leaders as they seek for a way to kill Jesus and they find

their end. Judas Iscariot approaches them and agrees to exchange Jesus's whereabouts for money. And the deed is done. Jesus was

betrayed. But Jesus knows his time is coming near and he shares one last Passover

meal with his disciples, setting the precedent for communion.

Bread breaks in remembrance of his body being broken for us.

Wine is drank to honor the blood he spilled on our behalf.

Jesus was anointed for burial with fine fragrances lavished on him by a woman

who understood he was worth expensive perfume and much, much more.

He spent hours praying to God in the Garden of Gethsenemy.

He asked his father to take the cup of suffering away. But knowing the pain to come,
