My name is Katie and I am so excited to continue through the Gospels with you.

Today we're starting the Gospel of Mark.

Mark or John Mark wrote what may be the earliest account of Jesus's life.

John Mark was a co-worker with Paul, cousin to Barnumas, and was close to Peter.

Most likely, Mark's account of the Gospel was written from Peter's first-hand stories of being a disciple.

Instead of being addressed to religious leaders and the Jews, Mark, his audience, is primarily to the Gentiles, which means us, isn't that cool? I once heard my youth pastor say. If you're new to the Bible and need a place to start I

recommend going to the gospel of Mark. It's fast-paced and it teaches you so much

about who Jesus is and he's right. Mark dives right into Jesus' ministry and forces readers to answer the question,

is Jesus who he says he is, the son of God. Chapter 1 of Mark begins with John the Baptist,

making a way for the Messiah.

He baptizes Jesus in the Jordan River and a voice from heaven says,

You are my beloved son and with you I am well pleased.

Here God calls Jesus his son and this sets the theme for the rest of the gospel.

Jesus was driven into the wilderness and was tempted by Satan himself for 40 days and 40 nights.

But he remained sinless and untouched by the temptations. With these preparations in order,

Jesus's ministry began.

Jesus preached in the synagogues

with depth and authority that only God would have.
