Today we are going over Chapter 7 through 9. Each of these chapters

contain a lot of different accounts and deep biblical principles that we can learn.

So first, there are two accounts of healing in chapter 7. The first involves a centurion.

A centurion was a Roman military officer who was in charge of 100 men.

This soldier was a Gentile. Yet as we read in this account, he was a person with genuine faith that Jesus was the Messiah.

Luke includes details in this healing account that Matthew doesn't.

Remember, Luke is also a Gentile and a major emphasis throughout the book is that the call to be

saved is for all people, not just the Israelites. So here we read that the Centurion

used Jewish elders to present his need before Jesus. He had a

a servant who was in need of healing and these Jewish elders

served as intermediaries for the centurion,

asking Jesus to heal the servant that the Centurion valued.

A couple of things to note.

The Centurion, though not a Jew, had a prominent role in building the synagogue.

The fact that the Jewish elders were willing to petition on his behalf tells us a lot.

Second, the centurion trusts in the power of Jesus to heal, and to heal with just a word.
