Luke. Today we are going over chapters 4, 5, and 6. Today's reading started with

the temptation of Jesus. Isn't it interesting that this came right after the genealogy?

The connection to the first atom reminds us that Jesus is the second

atom, and while the first atom failed to resist temptation and obey, the second atom

will never fail. He will resist temptation and perfectly obey his father and that's

what we see today. The temptation of Jesus is recorded in two other Gospels and

it's important to note its timing in Jesus's life too. It happened

after his baptism and before the beginning of his public ministry. In this

telling we read that Jesus was tempted to change stone to bread, to worship Satan to gain the kingdoms of the world, and to test God's protection.

Of course, Jesus resisted combating temptation with the word.

Then in the power of the Spirit spirit he returned to Galilee. Jesus went to

his hometown of Nazareth to engage in ministry. He went to the synagogue as he always

did and he read from Isaiah 61. He read the portion that appointed to the coming of the Messiah, the first advent, and then he said something

Verse 21, Jesus said this, Today as you listen, the scripture has been fulfilled.

Wow, Jesus was not beating around the bush. He was crystal clear.

He is the fulfillment of every Messianic prophecy because he is the Messiah.
