the book of Luke looking at at chapters 19, 20, and 21.

Today's readings start with a popular account that's often told in Sunday school classes,

Zakius and the Sycamore tree.

Sakeus was a very rich man.

He was the chief tax collector.

In this account we read that Jesus was passing through Jericho and desperate to see Jesus,

Sakeas climbed a Sycamore tree.

But rather than catch a glimpse of Jesus,

Zekias was pursued by Jesus,

and Zekias is called by name.

Jesus dined with Zekias and Zakius's response is

repentance. He's saved. Remember yesterday when we read about the rich young

ruler and how Jesus said how hard it is for those who have wealth to

enter the kingdom of God, for it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a

needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God. Remember what he said after that? What is

account of Sakius. Jesus called Sakius by name, invited himself to

Sakius's home, and Zakius was forever changed. He was saved. The same is true
