11 and 12 with you all today.

Yesterday we noted a significant shift midway through chapter 9.

Jesus was beginning to prepare for Jerusalem and the cross,

and it's really impactful to remember that as we consider what he says in the coming

chapters. Chapter 10 begins with Jesus sending his followers out to towns where he would

soon come. They were on mission with him and note that Jesus tells

them that they are being sent out as lambs among wolves. They were given

instructions to go out in twos, to take no money bag, to not greet anyone along the road.

Why?

It's because time was of the essence.

They were to go and tell people that the kingdom of God

has come near them. Jesus knew what was going to come soon.

He knew the cross was before him.

We're not told how long they were gone, but when the 72 return,
