the Book of Luke. Today we are going over chapters 1 through 3. In the very first

paragraph of chapter 1, we get a lot of background information. It's a prologue of sorts. Luke, the author, addresses the person he's writing to, a man named Theophilus, and he tells Theophilus that he was going to give an orderly account of Jesus's life and ministry. You may be wondering, who is Theophilus?

Considering Luke addressed him as most excellent, it is highly likely that Theophilus was a Roman

Dignitary who was also a follower of Jesus.

Luke tells Theophilus that he is compiling a narrative of the things that were done in and

through Jesus.

The information was a compilation of words given from eyewitnesses,

primarily the Apostles. Luke may not have witnessed every single event in this account

himself, but we know that his words are infallible because

So with that, let's look over the events in chapters one through three.

you'll notice a few things. First, you'll notice that the focus is on two people, John the Baptist and Jesus.
