Welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. My name is Alexa and today we are

continuing our Sunday of Judges by reading Judges 16 through 18. In Judges 16, we finish

our story of Samson. Samson has continued to be disobedient to the Lord and he sleeps

with the prostitute. When others hear that Samson is in their land, they try and ambush

him. But Samson leaves before their ambush, taking up the doors of the gate of the city

and two posts with him. Samson goes on to live disobediently by taking another woman

as a lover. This woman was named Delilah. The Philistines convinced Delilah to figure out

where Samson's strength comes from. If she's successful, she'll be greatly rewarded

financially. Delilah asks for Samson to reveal his strength, but each time Samson lies

to Delilah and tells her that it is by doing certain things like binding him with ropes

or weaving his hair that makes him lose his strength. However, when Delilah does these

things, it doesn't work. Eventually, Delilah manipulates Samson and to telling her his

secret and Samson gives in. He reveals his strength, his hair. As a Nazarene, he is not

allowed to cut his hair. If his head is shaved, he loses his strength. Sure enough, Delilah

cuts his hair during his sleep and he loses his strength. But verse 20 tells us that Samson

did not know that the Lord had left him. Samson assumed it was his hair that gave him

strength, but it's really the Lord. Samson asks for the Lord to give him his strength

one last time and God grants him his request. Samson breaks down the pillars of the temple

he has changed to, crushing him as well as over 3,000 Philistines. Chapter 17, 13, 18,
