This is Stephanie and let's continue through the Book of Jeremiah. Today we are covering chapters 4, 5, and 6. These

chapters make up the second message of Jeremiah. Remember, this message began at the end of chapter 3. In essence it is a call to return.

It is a call to turn away from sin and turn toward God. This message is flushed out in today's chapters.

Chapter 4 starts off with assurance. If Judah repends and returns to the Lord,

the result would be that the nation would worship the

Lord and come to know him. There are a lot of word pictures offered in this

chapter encouraging them to this end. They are instructed to plow and not so thorns.

We are reminded of the teaching in Matthew 13 of the good soil.

They are told to circumcise their hearts. God's people were to set their hearts

wholly on the Lord. They were to cut away idols and sin. Yet Judah rebelled and rejected the Lord. In turn, Jeremiah is instructed to tell the people of the disaster that is to come.

They are told that God was bringing terrible destruction from the north.

This is Babylon, and Jeremiah tells them that the Babylonians will be like a lion,

a besieging army that will lay waste of the land. a that brought this upon them. Jeremiah was distraught.

He says, I wreathe in pain,

oh the agony of my heart. We begin to learn why Jeremiah is known as the

weeping prophet. In this chapter we see his heart break and his intense grief
