Before we dive in, let me give you some background information.

Chapter 1 versus 1 through 3 actually gives us a lot of this information. The author of this book is

Jeremiah who was a priest and a prophet. The next verses tell us where in the historical

timeline this account takes place. In the days of Josiah and

Jehovahum until the captivity of Jerusalem. This is a span of 50 years.

Jeremiah actually proclaimed the Israelites captivity of Babylon,

and so this is pre-Exile,

and then actually lived to see it happen.

So the first half of the book is a warning

about the judgment upon Judah, the southern kingdom.

And the second half goes over the judgment and offers hope as we see
