Hey, hey, welcome back to a year in the Bible with Daily Grace. This is Joanna Kimbrill.

Your host through the book of Genesis. And today we are talking about Genesis 28 through 30.

When we talked last, Jacob and Rebecca had just deceived Isaac into giving the blessing

to Jacob. And when Esau found out he was so angry that he wanted to kill Jacob. Now in

chapter 28, Jacob's on the run. So Jacob, as he is running, lies down with a rock for

a pillow to go to sleep. And he has this amazing dream. He sees a ladder that goes between heaven

and earth with angels going up and down it. And the Lord speaks to Jacob. He passed down to

Jacob the same promise that he gave to Abraham and to Isaac. That he will have tons of offspring.

That God will give him the promised land and that through his offspring all the peoples of the

world will be blessed. And God promises to be with him and protect him. And when he wakes up,

he says, how awesome is this place? This is none other than the house of God and this is the gate

of heaven. And the story of Jacob's ladder points us to Jesus. And in fact, Jesus himself tells us

how it does that. In John 151, Jesus says, truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened

and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man. The Son of Man is Jesus,

and he is telling us that he is Jacob's ladder. He is the gateway to heaven. Jesus is the only way

we can have access to God. In John 146, Jesus says, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one

comes to the Father except through me. In the next chapter, Jacob comes in contact with some

shepherds from Heron, which is where his mother Rebecca was from. So Jacob asked if they knew

Laban, who was Rebecca's brother, and they said yes, and that his daughter Rachel, a shepherdus,
