Back in the 1970s, young men started going missing around the greater Chicago area.

33 young men to be exact. And I don't even know if calling them young men is the right word.

Because some of them were boys, no older than 14.

And they had their entire lives ahead of them.

Some of these boys went missing while looking for a job in the city.

Others were last seen near the Greyhound bus station or walking along the roads outside of Chicago.

And all of them were manipulated and murdered by a man named John Wayne Gacy.

But their killer wasn't a mysterious man that laid low and operated in the shadows.

John Gacy was well known not only by his community but within Chicago politics as well.

He was successful, charming, respected.

He even hosted neighborhood barbecues and dressed up as Pogo the Clown where he would go to children's hospitals and make the kids smile.

And everyone knew he was a little strange but no one could have ever suspected that within the cross base of his small Chicago home

where the bodies of dozens of young men in all different stages of decomposition.

And it wouldn't be long until the entire world knew the name of the man responsible.

This is the story of John Wayne Gacy, the killer clown.

And this episode is about his life and everything that led up to the horrible crimes he committed over 50 years ago.
