Summary

Do you really want the pain to leave? WOW. What a question, right? I think it isn't discussed often enough how many of us inadvertently hang onto the pain, often without realizing it, because we fear that we might need to do more or change something if it went away. Today, Christine Hauptman and I sit down and discuss her journey from pain with no diagnosis and anger, to willingness, self compassion and peace. Christine began to heal at our Omega Retreat last summer, and continues to do so. She is also brave enough to explore whether she's really ready to let go of the last vestiges of her pain, and we have an opportunity to broach this important topic together. Join us! So this is kind of weird because I am recording this before the new year, but it will air after the new year.

So Christine was a participant at my Omega retreat last year and I think she was the very last person to sign up.

1:09.6

According to her story, it was 10 days before and I really think that she was the very last person to sign up

1:15.6

in a moment of total desperation and total helplessness and with no faith in her ability to get well at all.

1:24.2

She took a chance and she signed up to come to Omega and it's totally changed her life and I actually didn't even know the extent of her story at all until we started talking today.

1:35.2

So I'm really excited to share it with you.

1:39.0

The reason I thought to contact Christine in the first place is because what I remembered about her from Omega is she came in very angry.

1:47.0

And I know that anger is the primary emotion that Dr. Sarno always connects to the syndrome of TMS and all-mind body related illness and pain and different symptoms.

2:03.0

And I have expanded that to include fear and shame and regret and embarrassment and trauma and all the things I talk about.

2:14.0

But anger is still a huge reason that we experience pain because anger is so unacceptable in our society.

2:22.0

We are so much more well received when we're sad or we're scared but to be angry is really punished.

2:29.0

And so I think that it's really important to highlight when someone's willing to talk about anger and to see how she was able to overcome it and to see why it was there and why it was so necessary for her to feel through it.

2:46.0

So I'll never forget Christine's anger and her bravery at opening her mouth in Omega and just saying I am so angry and allowing herself to do what needed to be done to be heard in her own mind body system and in the group and then have her have such a transformation.

3:04.0

So I contacted her also because Christine is an active member of my journal speak page and I love to hear the wonderful advice she's always giving people there.

3:14.0

So I'm looking forward to sharing that with you.
