As a travel writer, I'm guessing lockdown's been a bit of a trip, but I saw Elvis Costello posted a thing the other day about your interview with him, about going to New Orleans.

Well, that's how I've been travelling, really.

It's, well, vicariously through musicians and people who have far more access to upgrades than I do.

I've been doing a show on Sunday afternoons called

the Happiness Map on Six Music, where I've been asking a few musicians, Elvis Costello,

was one of them, to take me to their favorite place on earth, tell me about it, and play

music that they choose from that destination. so it's kind of a desert island

discs in transit i suppose and elvis i'm saying it like i know him i don't i don't know him

elvis costello's guide to new orleans um and yes so that has been a partially successful way of getting through lockdown.

We'll come to it shortly, but we're talking about a very unusual choice,

Beatles-wise.

But first tell me about when you first discovered the Beatles.

I first discovered the Beatles when my dad was going off to work in the morning, and he worked in Bootle in Liverpool,

and we lived very close by.

And I think me and my younger sister were very hyperactive, as young children are, first thing in the morning.
