Hello and thank you for joining us for another episode of Into the Killing.

In this week's episode, we'll look at the brutal murder of a young woman in 1979.

For decades, the case sat cold.

It would take some innovative thinking to finally solve the case. Diane Lynn Marie Knight was born in a small city outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on New Year's Day, 1951.

She went by the name Lynn.

Lynn had two sisters and a brother.

At some point, the family moved to the picturesque town of Stratford, Ontario.

The city is famous for its productions of Shakespeare plays.

Lynn went to nursing school and after she graduated, many places needed nurses.

She chose to move to Torrance, California, which is about 20 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles.

She got a job in the neonatal unit at the Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center.

Lynn was a dedicated worker who came in early, stayed late, and took double shifts.

Lynn's friends and family described her as gregarious and outgoing.

She was also described as a tomboy and she liked sports like water skiing, downhill skiing,

scuba diving, marathon running, racquetball, and volleyball.

Lynn had a love of male friends.

When she dated, she preferred handsome, professional men.

In late August, 1979, 29-year-old Lynn was living in a small studio apartment that was built

off a garage in Torrance.

Early that summer, Sony's Walkman hit the market in Japan.

On August 10th, Michael Jackson released his album off the wall.

It was his fifth studio album and it proved to be his breakout album.
