Summary

A giant in the fields of alternative medicine and spirituality, my friend of three decades, Deepak Chopra, joins me on today's podcast.

We dive into the state of the world today, the miracle of human existence, and how aging has led us both to reevaluate the way we approach our lives.

After the interview I take listener questions.

What has it been to be human today? To be human today is to be responsible either directly or indirectly

0:08.0

for climate change, for extinction of species, poison in the food chain, war, terrorism,

0:16.7

cyber hacking, biological warfare. This means extinction, this means extinction,

0:24.8

and it also means insanity. So if we do not agree that the world is insane,

0:31.2

then we are declaring our insanity. So that's where I am. The world is insane. I've accepted that,

0:37.4

and I'm at peace.

Welcome. My guest today needs no introduction, but I'm going to give you one anyway,

0:48.4

because I have my own special story to tell you. In 1992, I published my first book,

0:54.8

it was called A Return to Love. And while I was writing the book, I read a book by someone I

1:00.6

had never read before. I had never heard of this author before. He was a doctor, and he talked

1:05.3

about how, when he was in medical school, they were experimenting with rabbits, and I don't know

1:11.3

something with rabbits, and the medical students started cuddling the rabbits and just stroking

1:16.1

them and stuff, because they were so cute. And he found the extraordinary physical changes that

1:22.4

occurred in terms of the health of the rabbits. So I thought that this was so in line with everything

1:27.6

I was talking about, writing about a return to love. So I spoke of this author, I spoke of this book,

1:33.4

I spoke of this experiment, his name, Deepak Chopra. I remember thinking the name was kind of

1:39.6

otic, because I'd never heard that name before. I even remember when my friend Ariel Ford used to

1:46.3

come to my lectures in those days, said, I'm going to call him and tell him, I'm going to sell his

1:50.9

cassette tapes, those were the days when all of us had these little cassette tapes of our lectures.

1:56.4

So I've known Deepak for a while, 1992, now I've known him about 30 years, and what an honor it

2:06.1

has been to know him, to learn from him. I'm an avid reader of his books, and I love him like we

2:14.5

all do. So I'm so grateful to have him on to the show today with me, to talk about not only his
