Welcome to a year in the Bible with daily grace. The Bible tells one big story of

redemption and we want to spend five minutes every day journeying through the Bible from start to finish, and exploring how all of it

points to Jesus. Hey everybody. Thanks for joining me today on a year in the Bible with

daily grace. My name is Jenny and today we are beginning First Corinthians.

I will give you a small introduction to 1st Corinthians

and then we will dive into chapters 1 through 3.

So let's get started.

1st Corinthians is a letter that Paul wrote to the Church of Corinth. In case you are new to studying the Bible or just joining us in a year in the Bible with daily grace,

Paul was a man that used to persecute Christians until God intervened in his life.

After that he converted to Christianity and spent the rest of his life spreading the good news

about Jesus Christ and starting churches. Anyway back to Paul's letter to the

Church of Corinth. The Church of Corinth was established by Paul on one of his missionary journeys. He stayed there for a year and a half but was

eventually driven out by Jews who rejected the gospel. From acts 18 we know that

many people in Corinth believed in Christ and were baptized.

However, through Paul's letters and as you will see today the church is already

facing serious problems. Now that you are caught up on the brief history of the Church of Corinth, let's dive into today's reading on 1st Corinthians, chapters 1 through 3.

Paul begins chapter 1 by explaining how thankful he is for the church. He also confirms that God

has given them all of the spiritual gifts and that God, because he is faithful, will continue

to strengthen them.

Paul then shifts from his message of Thanksgiving and reaffirmation of all that the Corinthians

have been given in Christ to address division in the church.

Corinth's division was caused by the Corinthians following different teachers within the church.
