Welcome to another special episode of Inside the Huddle, and today we're taking you into the training camp of the Chicago Bears.

There is much excitement in the Windy City, and I spoke to the man who's built the Bears into a contender.

Here is my conversation with general manager, Ryan Poles.

Brian, let's start with your route to becoming a general manager.

How did you get to where you are now?

Yeah, well, it goes back to playing.

I started at Boston College, played there,

and had the opportunity to come here to Chicago to play as undrafted a free agent. I had a great

experience. Ended up not being talented enough to make the roster, which set my career on a different

path. I went to Boston College, back to Boston College, where I went to

school and started working and recruiting. And that's where I started meeting scouts that came in

asking about players for the upcoming draft. And I really fell in love with the thought of building a team,

doing the research on the players that you need to acquire to get you to like a championship.

And that really kind of just hit my soul as the path that I wanted to go on.

Ended up sending my resumes to pretty much every team in the league.

And it popped to Kansas City was a team that popped on the radar.

And Scott Peolley hired me to Kansas City, which really started my

career in scouting and front office work. I started at the very bottom, scouting assistant,

doing all the busy work, you know, running the copiers, driving players to medical exams and

physicals and back. So it was a tough road, but it kind of built who I am today.
