Hey, it's Ryan Holiday. Welcome to another weekend episode of the Daily Dad podcast. We just got back

from New York. So I was there for the launch of The Daily Dad. And it was kind of weird. It was

like I had a thing on a Monday in the very early morning, a thing on Tuesday, mid-morning,

the thing on Wednesday at night. And then I had a talk I had to give in Chicago on like Friday.

And it just felt very wrong to me to be putting out a book about parenting and to just be

gone for a week and to be like in my own world as I was putting out this book. I was be

pretend. I would be talking about my pretend dedication and family firstness and whatever.

Meanwhile, my wife would be holding down the fort by herself.

And I'm sure everyone would have understood, but that just felt wrong.

It also was a little frustrating that the publicity team in my publisher had sort of booked basically

one day of work, spread out over three days. And since the last thing was at night and the first

thing was early in the morning, it was actually, I had to be gone for five days. I just didn't like

that at all. So I said, hey, to my publisher, I'll do all this press, but you got to let me

bring my family. And they agreed,

and we worked out a deal. And I brought the kids. It was more or less the first time in New York.

My sister got married in upstate New York when they were very, very young. And then there's a long,

long story about a time I forgot my passport when my oldest was also very young.

But they've basically only been in the city for like minutes and didn't really, hadn't really
