The South Caucasus, these dispute between Azerbaijan, the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic

of Armenia, violence over these last months, ending in December 2020 with what appeared

to be a stand-off with Russian peacekeepers inserting themselves into the conversation

about Nagorno-Karabakh, the Latin corridor, the exclave of Azerbaijan and Armenia's

ambitions to assert its rights over what it called Artsakh, aka Nagorno-Karabakh.

Now there's been another round of violence and most recently explosions that look very

much like sabotage or some sort of terrorist action in Armenian-controlled Nagorno-Karabakh.

Gregory Kapli of Defense and Foreign Affairs this year, I have traveled in Azerbaijan but

I have not studied very carefully the South Caucasus contest since the end of the Soviet Union.

These are former Soviet client states that were under the boot of Moscow for many decades

and this contest is about a piece of Azerbaijan that was claimed by Armenia in the early

1990s and kept by force for many years. Now it appears that Nagorno-Karabakh has reclaimed

that Azerbaijanists have claimed Nagorno-Karabakh and it also appears that Armenia has been

momentarily elbowed aside by its here-to-for mentor, Russia.

Gregory, it's the best I can to do a summary in a paragraph of what we're looking at.

This is the South Caucasus. What is your measure of Armenia now that they have acknowledged

that Nagorno-Karabakh is firmly in the hands of Azerbaijan? Good evening to you.

of Armenia occupied Nagorno-Karabakh had basically started to empty out that little
