Summary

Sometimes, the hardest truth to face is that the person you love is the one you need to walk away from. Today, Jillian answers three listener letters from people stuck in relationships where love, addiction, betrayal, or avoidance are keeping them trapped. She dives deep into what it means to trust yourself again, why you can’t save someone who’s drowning, and how self-respect—not attachment—is what sets you free. 0:25.7

that they are in and there are times where I tell people you've got to stay and work it out

0:32.7

and there are other times where it's just so important to leave and I think think that what I feel so committed to because it breaks my heart is how many people,

0:43.7

and look, I've been there too years ago, how many people don't trust themselves?

0:51.2

You know, it's like they know that something is wrong deep down and they don't

0:57.5

feel good. And yet they don't trust themselves to make the right decision. They don't trust what

people. And even if it's just like all the signs are pointing in the direction of like this

1:26.3

isn't right, it creates an enormous

1:29.4

internal conflict and it's because this is like the nature of being human this is why it's so

1:37.4

romantic relationships can be so incredibly difficult to navigate but I have a feeling that many of you are going to recognize yourself in these stories and

1:51.6

in my answers, or you're going to know people who need this so badly.

1:57.8

So I'm going to start with this first question, and here we go. Dear Jillian, I have been in a

2:03.0

relationship with a man for two years. When we got together, it was only six months that his ex-fiance

2:11.0

broke up with him. He told me she looked at his phone and found a Christmas text from an ex.

2:19.3

He says, then she broke up with him because she asked for total transparency from him

2:24.1

with other women.

2:26.8

He was devastated when I met him.

2:30.2

And so I knew that he was not ready for a relationship or for anything serious.

2:36.2

But we had great chemistry and kept seeing each other and eventually things got more serious.

2:43.2

But I didn't ever feel prioritized or really valued or seen by him.
