Welcome back to another edition of the business of sports with Andrew Brand. I was really intrigued after the Super Bowl, where we found out two exclusions from the Pro Football Hall of Fame,

former Commissioner Paul Tagliboo, who I served under largely my time in the NFL, and receiver

Terrell Owens, of course, reasons given his team disruption, his diva-like presence, I think that

takes us down a really slippery slope. I decided to find someone who was in the room and found Paul Damawich, reporter for the Philadelphia Dailying News, the Philadelphia representative in the room.

Here I'm sitting down with him in front of students at Villanova talking about it and really taking us behind the curtain on selections into the Hall of Fame.

And my first question, Paul, is how is it even structured as to who is in this room

picking who goes in the Hall of Fame?

There are 48 selectors now.

Each city in the NFL is represented by someone from that city, a writer, a broadcaster.

Then there are 16 at-large voters, which includes two former players, two Hall of Fame players.

Dan Fouts, who played for San Diego Chargers, and James Lofton, who played

for a number of teams, including your former team, Green Bay.

So there's 48 of us.

The meeting this year lasted nine hours, Saturday before the Super Bowl.

Basically, what we do is there are 15 modern era finalists.

This year, there were two contributor nominees and one senior finalists.

So we basically spent the better part of those nine hours discussing all of the 18 candidates.

And then we had, on the contributors and the senior candidate, you just have an up or down vote.

They have to get 80% of the votes or they don't go in.

On the 15 modern era finalists, which included T.O. and Brian Dawkins and the others,

we had reduction votes from 15 to 10.
