Welcome inside the Dean Smith Center on the campus of the University of North Carolina here in Chapel Hill.

As after 48 years in coaching, 33 as a head coach at the college level, including the last

18 here in Chapel Hill at the University of North Carolina.

We are here today to see Roy Williams announce his retirement from college

coaching. My name is Jones Angel here alongside former Tarheel All America, Eric Montross, and Adam Lucas as

Coach Williams has just now entered the building walking on to the Smith Center floor.

There is a podium set up with three seats and three microphones.

Coach Williams will be up there along with the Chancellor

here at Carolina, Kevin Guskowitz and Tar Hill Athletic Director

Bubba Cunningham. Those three will make opening statements and address some

socially distanced media members who are here. You may hear some applause in the background.

There's several members of Carolina's athletic staff, other coaches that are here.

This is not an event that is open to the public, but we are glad that you could be with us today to listen in to what is certainly an important event, not just in Carolina basketball.

But in Carolina history, let's go down to court level this voices of Steve

start with a comment from Chancellor Guskowitz and then go to Mr. Cunningham and then have Coach Williams make a statement

I want to welcome all of you to the Dean dome on this historic day for our university.

Like most of you here today, I do wish that this was an April Fool's joke.

Coach Williams has led our team for the past 18 season and there will never be another

coach like him.

On behalf of the Carolina students, faculty, staff, and alumni, I want to offer my heartfelt

thank you to Roy, Wanda, and their entire family for their love and service to our university.
