Summary

In today's episode, Sarah reflects on routines, noting that her recent episode on morning routines is already obsolete (as it applies to her own morning routine, anyway!). She shares thoughts about being flexible as you set your routines, and the need to continually re-evaluate, as well as her new morning routine. Then, she pivots to all things weekend planning, as inspired by her friend noting that weekends were feeling . . . unsatisfying at times (Kae blogs at gratefulkae.com). Sarah shares her rationale for why you should dedicate time to plan your weekends (at least as much as the week!) and shares some ideas to keep in mind as you think about those hours. Below, her suggestions: TAKE THE TIME TO THINK THROUGH THESE DAYS! BE REALISTIC don’t forget transition time, drive time, etc IF YOU DO HAVE TO WORK, BE VERY SPECIFIC ABOUT WHAT YOUR END GOALS ARE and TIME FRAME SLOT IN RELAXATION AND GET ENOUGH REST CONSIDER WEEKENDS TIME TO DO INSTALLMENTS OF A BIGGER PROJECT TALK TO OTHERS BEFORE SETTING YOUR SCHEDULE - GET THEIR INPUT/BUY-IN TRY TO BALANCE ACTIVE/MORE SOCIAL PERIODS WITH SOME DOWN TIME MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOMETHING FUN FOR YOU! Hello and welcome to best laid plans.

0:11.2

This is your host, Sarah Hart Unger, and this is the podcast where we talk all things planning

0:15.2

and planning adjacent.

0:17.1

Today we are going to do a little revamp discussion about routines because I noticed something

0:22.5

a little bit funny when I was updating my podcast show notes page. And then I'm going to pivot

0:28.7

to talking a little bit about weekends, something we haven't talked about on this podcast,

0:33.5

specifically before. All right. So first, we're going to get started talking a little bit about routines.

0:39.5

Now, this became an idea for me when I was updating my show notes page.

0:45.1

I have a page on my website, which is the shoebox.com, T-H-E-S-H-U-B-O-X.com.

0:51.9

Most people probably know this, but the reason it's the shoebox.com is because my

0:56.2

initials are S-H-U. And back in 2010, when I was choosing the URL, now keep in mind, my website

1:02.7

is actually from 2004, but I rebranded it in 2010 because the old name was ridiculous.

1:10.0

It was called Lost and All Alone at

1:12.0

Blogspot.com. It was a time, you guys. Like, that was normal back then, and I realized in 2010

1:18.3

that it was no longer normal. And now, even the shoebox.com is kind of not terribly normal in

1:23.4

2025. But that is the legacy name we have right now, and at least it's pretty short.

1:28.2

Anyway, wow, that was a digression. So I was updating the show notes page, which I have to do

1:32.9

manually. When an episode comes out, I go ahead and I add it. I usually remember to do it when

1:37.1

I'm writing the show notes for Monday morning, but every once in a while, a few weeks go by,

1:40.8

and I go, oh my goodness, I have not done this. And it looks like the last

1:44.6

episode of the show was from, you know, a month and a half ago. So I was updating it and I noticed

1:49.4

that I had an episode on morning routines that came out on February 10th. And I just found
