If it's March, it's the return of the biggest college basketball tournament in America.

But the excitement that March Madness routinely generates has to shadow over a deeper fundamental

problem with the NCAA days.

Mainly, it's treatment of its roughly half a million young athletes who perform it to

you.

One million viewers annually doesn't earn them any salary compensation.

One person who has spent a good chunk of the past couple of years trying to fix the NCAA.

And if you guess that the same person once lived up in a gun, you're well-custed with

you right on the money.

Robert Gates is the former U.S. Secretary of Defense and prior to that he served as director

of the CIA.

But in 2021, he was named the chairman of the 28-member committee tasked with rewriting

the NCAA's constitution.

NCAA, of course, oversees how the sports in general is played throughout more than 8,000

member colleges.

This was no small order.

And by the way, in between government job, Bob Gates was the chancellor at Texas A&M.

So he knows his way around a university for two.
