Summary

Don’t worry — no spoilers here — but the final season of Amazon Prime’s Upload is upon us. The surreally, funny, tech-prophetic series left us all on a cliffhanger at the close of season 3 with Robbie’s character cloned and one of them bites the dust: BUT WHICH ONE!? And who is Robbie Amell? The Canadian actor is commercially successful, prolific, and widely swooned over. He’s been part of big shows that are a part of fabric of people’s childhoods, True Jackson, VP, Scooby Doo, Life with Derek, but he’s also highly motivated and indie-minded: the runaway success of the crowd-funded film Code 8 — which he made with his pals and cousin Stephen Amell — alongside its Netflix-funded sequel is proof enough. Inspiring stuff. Next up, his film Racewalkers.

We talk about all this, but also meeting his wife and best pals on the set of American Pie: Beta House, The Duff, and of course we go deep on Upload, the project he’s had the longest history with. What it was like working with the screenwriting legend that is Greg Daniels (SNL alum, The Office, co-creator of Parks and Rec, and King of the Hill), plus talk character arcs, special effects, AI, and so much more.

Do we have a good weekend, everyone? Yay. Yeah. I went to go see Leva on Friday. She released an album, listened to it. I went and saw Leva on Friday. Levee. I kind of like, I said it quickly. Levee. How was it? Incredible. She's incredible. It was that one of my favorite venues on Earth called The Trubidor?

0:35.1

Yeah, that's a good place. She broke a bass. She's bad ass. She broke a bass. Like, she did like what rock stars do, Dan, with a guitar. She did it with an upright bass. Did she really? Yes. It's strong. Yeah, she is strong. She stepped on and stopped on the whole thing. It was cool. How was Lainey Wilson? It was really good. It was good.

0:36.0

Did you guys have fun?

0:37.5

Yes, we did. We had a good time.

1:29.3

Great time. Was it was it was is it big country vibes? Is it be? What's the crowd? Yeah, I think my only regret is not wearing my cowboy hat. Dan and I talked about this quite a bit, but then we were like in a section where basically down on the floor where the the seats were like very even with one another. So if I wore the hat, the people behind me wouldn't be able to see. There was also a grandmother sitting behind us and they refused to stand up. Yeah. Oh, that's it. And they were annoyed that we were standing, but everybody else was standing so we didn't know what to do. That's a very... I got into a fight with someone at a concert once for that. Where do you stand on standing, Allie? I think I'm pro standing and I was really upset because we were at a Stevie Wonder concert and I no one in our section was standing.

1:39.3

So it's one of those things like unspoken role, okay, if no one's standing, I'm gonna sit.

1:43.3

Yeah. So I sat but then our favorite song came on for once in my life. We had to stand up for that one. And the woman behind me taps me to sit me down. I was like, it's one song, it's a fucking, sorry. That's a fucking lot of song. Wow. And by the way, this is an old lady Could be your last concert that she ever sees It was not an old lady

1:44.3

And by the way, she can't even see it because you're not a...

1:45.9

Listen, Wow. And by the way, this is an old lady could be your last concert that she ever sees. It was not an old lady. And by the way, she can't even see it because you're not a pain. You may be a pain, but you're not a pain of glass. It was someone that could have been our age, okay? They were not an old lady. So for her to tap me on the shoulder to sit me down for one song, the best song. Come on.

2:18.1

This is a family show.
