The league meetings are going on this week, and we expected a number of different stories to perhaps lead the way, but Rob Grancowski's retirement

takes center stage in a huge way. And it's funny because while it's not unexpected,

and he's been talking about it, Phil, for going on two years, the fact that the news dropped right now does kind of

take your breath away on a lot of different levels, who he was as a player, what he means

to this team, what he's meant to the community, and what the football team does going forward.

Sure. And in the here and now, I think the reason it does take your breath away, as you

mentioned, is the fact that it's gone this long without hearing from Rob Grankowski in terms of his making a decision one way or the other.

I think a lot of us felt as though, well, he said two weeks right around the time of the Super Bowl, and that's the amount of time he would need.

We're well past that.

We still haven't heard from him.

His agent continues to tell us that he's still thinking about it.

And I think a lot of us felt like, well, the more he thinks about it, the better the odds are that he does actually come back.

Whether it's on a different sort of Rob Grankowski rules program or not.

And the fact that he decided today that that won't be the case, I think is still surprising for people. Yeah, what I knew about the way the situation was playing out is the Patriots wanted to know

from Rob before Free Agency began on March 13th.

It makes a hell of a lot of sense.

If you're going to go shopping, you need to know how much money you have to shop with.

Well, he didn't move.
